GMC reg: 5188769I qulaified as a doctor in 1990 from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo - One of the oldest and most prestigeous medical schools in Asia. I did my initial postgraduate training in Sri Lanka and obtained MS (Surgery) from the Postgraduate Institue of Medicine of the University of Colombo in 1996. Thereafter I came to the UK for postgraduate studies and undertook a period of research at the Nuffield Department of surgery in the University of Oxford leading to a D.Phil.(Oxon) in 2000. I have undertaken all my Higher Surgical Training in the UK from 2000-2007 and have trained at King's College Hospital London, Guys & St Thomas' Foundation NHS Trust, Brighton, Medway & Canterbury Hospitals. I completed my FRCS (Clinical Surgery in General) from the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1996 prior to starting my Higher Surgical Training and at the end of my Higher Surgical Training I completed the FRCS (General Surgery) with a declared special interest in Vascular surgery in 2006. I was recognised as a Specialist and obtained my entry to the specialist register of the GMC in October 2007. I have been working as a Vascular & General Surgeon at the Kent & Canterbury Hospital from 2007 and undertake private work at the BMI Chaucer hospital Canterbury, Spencer Wing Margate, & The Canterbury Clinic of the Cooden Medical Group. I have an excellent track record for Vascular & General Surgery available to view via NHS websites and the National Vascular registry portal available in the public domain. I am an undergraduate as well as a postgraduate trainer and have been nominated for the Silver Scalpel Award. I am an honorary Senior Lecturer for the King's College London and I am in charge of the Vascular Surgery Training programme for King's final year medical students placed in East Kent Hospital University Foundation NHS Trust. I have been the Royal College of Surgeons tutor for Surgery at the Kent & Canterbury Hospital since 2012 and run the popular Royal College Sponsored Basic Surgical Skills Course twice a year. I am a qualified Educational Supervisor having completed both parts of QESP and undertake both undergraduate & postgraduate educational supervision and was awarded the Educational Supervisor of the Year award in 2018. I undertake Clinical Supervision of whole range of junior doctors and higher surgical trainees. I was the joint Audit Lead for Surgical Division from 2014-17 and contributed to many reforms of the Clinical Audit Department including creation of a SCAT (Surgical Clinical Audit Team) and making the process of registration & reporting of projects more efficient. I play cricket & badminton for recreation and enjoy gardening as a leisure activity. I am married and we have one son who is currently studying Medicine in Nottingham University.
