Patko is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a particular expertise in lower limb arthroplasty and complex revision surgery. He has been a Consultant in Orthopaedics and Trauma since January 2005, and in April 2010 he was appointed as a Substantive Consultant at Barnsley General Hospital, NHS Foundation Trust . He completed his medical degree in 1991 at the Medical University in Hungary and went on to complete postgraduate training in orthopaedics in 1998. After moving to the UK, he undertook basic surgical training in Hull and East Riding, followed by specialist fellowship training in Lower Limb Arthroplasty at: Bradford Robert Jones & Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital, Oswestry Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham Karlsbad Langensteinbach, Germany The Spinal Foundation, Rochdale Clinical Expertise Mr. Patko’s practice is focused on hip and knee arthroplasty, with a particular interest in complex revision cases. Hip Surgery Robotic, navigated, and PSI (Patient-Specific Instrumented) total hip replacements Primary total hip replacement, including ceramic bearings in younger patients Complex revision hip surgery, utilising techniques such as extended trochanteric osteotomy and trochanteric slide for exposure Pelvic revision strategies including mesh, reinforcement rings, impaction bone grafting, uncemented sockets, and bulk allograft when appropriate Wide experience with both cemented and uncemented implants for femoral reconstruction Total hip replacement for fracture neck of femur in suitable patient groups Knee Surgery Robotic, navigated, and PSI total knee replacements Primary knee arthroplasty: both condylar and unicondylar replacements Revision knee arthroplasty, including use of condylar and hinged implants for complex deformities Arthroscopic procedures, including meniscectomy Research & Education Mr. Patko has published in peer-reviewed journals and delivered presentations nationally and internationally on a wide range of orthopaedic topics. He is also extensively involved in navigated joint replacement surgery.
