This information is provided by Professor James Tysome.
Mr Tysome is a Consultant ENT surgeon based at Cambridge University Hospitals. He treats both children (from birth) and adults with general ENT problems, specialising in hearing and balance issues, Eustachian tube dysfunction, sinusitis, paediatric ENT problems, hearing implantation and skull base surgery. He pioneered the introduction of balloon dilatation of the Eustachian tube in the UK and regularly sees patients with complex ENT problems referred from other ENT surgeons. Mr Tysome has worked in London, Cambridge and California and has won many academic prizes. He is an Affiliated Professor at the University of Cambridge where he supervises PhD students. He is NHS England National Clinical Lead for Specialised Ear Surgery, Past Vice-Chair of the NICE (National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence) Interventional Procedures Committee which Is responsible for evaluating and recommending new operations in England. He has published 150 research papers and is Editor-in-Chief of Clinical Otolaryngology, a leading academic ENT journal. He holds national leadership positions in education and research at the Royal Society of Medicine, British Skull Base Society and ENT UK.
