Mr James Kirwan

I am a consultant ophthalmologist and have worked in this area for 18 years. I work as an NHS consultant in Portsmouth but care for patients in both Hampshire and West Sussex. I have provided a specialist glaucoma service for many years, often receiving referrals from other consultant colleagues to manage a patient’s glaucoma. I also undertake high volume and complex cataract surgery. I have authored over 50 publications in glaucoma and a recognised expert in my field. I regularly talk at national and international meetings. My main areas of research interest are in improving services and improving the results of treatment (particularly for glaucoma surgery). I am the past chairman of the UK and Eire Glaucoma Society and act as an adviser for Glaucoma UK, the major glaucoma charity in the UK.
