This information is provided by Mr Jakub Kozdryk.
Mr Jakub Kozdryk is an accomplished Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist interest in hip and knee osteoarthritis. He performs both primary and complex hip and knee replacements, with comprehensive expertise in revision arthroplasty. His clinical practice includes the management of periprosthetic joint infections, significant bone loss, and periprosthetic fractures. He works as an NHS Consultant at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW), a Major Trauma Centre and leading Hip and Knee Revision Centre. Mr Kozdryk earned his medical degree in 2006 from one of Poland’s top-tier medical universities in Gdansk. He then joined the prestigious Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery run-through training programme in Birmingham, where he gained broad exposure to complex cases and honed his surgical expertise over eight years. After successfully completing the FRCS (Tr & Orth) examination, he was awarded the Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in 2018 and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. To further specialise in hip and knee arthroplasty, he undertook a post-CCT fellowship in hip surgery at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham. He later completed fellowships in trauma and in revision lower limb arthroplasty at UHCW, where he worked with high-volume revision surgeons and focused on complex reconstructions and infection management. Mr Kozdryk is a Clinical and Educational Supervisor for both Core Surgical Trainees and Higher Specialty Trainees in Orthopaedics. He plays a key role in training and mentoring junior surgeons, contributing to the continued development of high standards in orthopaedic care. He is a core member of the Bone Infection Group Coventry and Warwickshire and contributes to the Regional Complex Hip and Knee MDT, collaborating with infectious disease, microbiology, plastic surgery, and rehabilitation teams on challenging cases. In addition to his clinical and teaching responsibilities, Mr Kozdryk is an executive member of the Bone and Joint Infection Society (BAJIS) and currently serves as the Society’s Webmaster. He has helped shape the Society’s structure and outreach, and has presented at national and international meetings. He is also a published author in peer-reviewed journals. His interest in surgical innovation includes the use of MAKO robotic-assisted hip replacement, of which he is a certified user. He also utilises Optimised Positioning System (OPS) technology to improve the accuracy of Total Hip Replacement implant positioning based on spino-pelvic biomechanics. Outside of his clinical work, he enjoys life in Solihull with his wife, two children, and their Boston Terrier, Baltic. A jazz enthusiast, he often unwinds by playing the piano — a welcome contrast to the demands of surgical practice.
