Mr Jahangir Ahmed is a Consultant Head & Neck, Thyroid and Sleep Surgeon with one of the most specialised practices in the United Kingdom. He is recognised internationally for his expertise in the treatment of obstructive sleep apnoea in patients who are unable to tolerate CPAP therapy, advanced head and neck cancer surgery, and complex thyroid surgery. His practice attracts referrals from across the UK and overseas for highly specialised surgical management of these conditions. Educated at University of Cambridge, he was awarded the Harmer Prize for Medicine before completing medical training at Imperial College London, where he graduated with the Gold Medal in Pathology. He subsequently completed higher surgical training in London's leading teaching hospitals and was awarded prestigious research fellowships from the Wellcome Trust, Barts Charity and the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He completed a PhD at Barts Cancer Institute in Cancer Immunotherapy. Obstructive Sleep Apnoea and Sleep Surgery Mr Ahmed is widely recognised as one of the UK's leading surgeons for patients with obstructive sleep apnoea who are unable to tolerate CPAP therapy. He offers the full spectrum of contemporary sleep surgery, including nasal surgery, palate reconstruction, tongue-base surgery, transoral robotic surgery (TORS) and hypoglossal nerve stimulation. He established and leads one of the UK's most comprehensive surgical sleep apnoea programmes and has extensive experience managing complex multilevel upper airway obstruction. Having performed more than 300 transoral robotic procedures, he is among the highest-volume transoral robotic surgeons in the United Kingdom. He is also currently the highest-volume Genio hypoglossal nerve stimulation implanter in the UK, placing him at the forefront of implantable neurostimulation therapies for obstructive sleep apnoea. Head and Neck Cancer Surgery Mr Ahmed is a high-volume head and neck cancer surgeon specialising in the treatment of cancers of the oral cavity, tongue, tonsil, pharynx, larynx, salivary glands and thyroid. He has particular expertise in minimally invasive and organ-preserving cancer surgery, including transoral laser microsurgery and transoral robotic surgery, enabling selected patients to avoid more extensive open procedures while maintaining excellent oncological outcomes. He was formerly the Chair of the Barts Head & Neck Cancer Multidisciplinary Team. . Thyroid and Neck Surgery Mr Ahmed is one of the core thyroid surgeons within the Barts Thyroid Cancer Multidisciplinary Team, one of the largest thyroid cancer centres in the United Kingdom. His practice includes the management of thyroid nodules, thyroid cancer, recurrent thyroid disease and advanced thyroid malignancy requiring comprehensive lymph node clearance of the neck.
