Consultant Upper GI and Bariatric Surgeon working at Duchy Hospital and Royal Cornwall Hospital for over 15 years. He qualified from Nottingham Medical School and undertook most of his subsequent surgical training in the South West UK region. He undertook two years of Doctorate (MD) research at the University of New South Wales, Sydney. He has published over 35 peer reviewed research papers and is a principal investigator in ongoing research trials. He was awarded a Fellowship to train in advanced laparoscopic surgery at UPMC Pittsburgh USA and completed his training undertaking a Post CCT Training Fellowship in Bariatric Surgery. Ian is a council member of the British Benign Upper GI Surgical Society, and serves as a bariatric subspecialty group representative for the Association of Upper GI Surgeons. He regularly leads and participates in training courses for UK and International surgeons. He teaches and interviews for the University of Exeter Medical School. He established the Bariatric Surgery Unit at Royal Cornwall and the Duchy Hospitals, and clinically led the installation of integrated laparoscopic theatres at RCHT Ian lives in Cornwall, pretends to be able to surf and trains beach lifeguards when not working.
