Ms Helen Doran

I qualified as a doctor with Honours in 1991 from The University of Liverpool. I then trained in the North-West, North Yorkshire and New Zealand. During this period I spent two years in full time academic research completing a fellowship in Epidemiology at Liverpool University and was awarded a Doctorate of Medicine in Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumours. Following specialist registration in the UK I was appointed as a consultant endocrine and general surgeon in 2008 and quickly established a high-volume adrenal, thyroid and parathyroid practice. My research training helped develop my skills in multidisciplinary work and set up a Regional Adrenal MDT. I also deliver Emergency General Surgery within a Major Trauma Centre. I am currently Clinical Lead for General Surgery and an appraiser. I have been an active member of the British Association Endocrine and Thyroid Surgeons (BAETS) throughout my career. Whilst on the BAETS executive council I was instrumental in their evolving position on Day Case Thyroidectomy.  Throughout my consultant career I have promoted training and development of all grades of general surgeons. I have publications in quality journals as both first author and part of collaborative groups and presented at national and international meetings.
