Professor Hector Chinoy

On completing my medical degree at the University of Nottingham, I have trained in Nottingham, Sheffield and Manchester. During my North West Rheumatology training I completed a Masters and a PhD. I have practiced as an NHS Consultant Rheumatologist since 2009. Rheumatology involves looking at the bigger picture and taking into account many different symptoms throughout the body, to come up with a meaningful diagnosis and treatment plan. My NHS practice at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust, involves the review of patients with a variety of musculoskeletal complaints, where they can also become involved in clinical trials and research. At The University of Manchester, I carry out an active programme of translational research in the field of autoimmune connective tissue disease, with research interests in genetic, epidemiological and translational aspects of adult idiopathic inflammatory myopathy. I see general musculoskeletal and rheumatology patients, with a special interest in autoimmune inflammatory myopathy (myositis), connective tissue disease and psoriatic arthritis. My clinical experience is important, as patients are often concerned that they may have a rare or uncommon disorder, when the ensuing diagnosis may be something more straightforward. I maintain an excellent working relationship with the other experts at the OrthTeam Centre, and can offer patients a considered opinion regarding musculoskeletal symptoms, joint injections, prescriptions and onward referrals, where appropriate. Many rheumatic diseases cannot be cured, but accurate diagnosis, focused management/treatment, and a holistic approach can empower patients to significantly improve pain levels, disability and quality of life.
