Mr Godfrey Charnley

I  trained in London and Bristol and have International Fellowship training in hip, knee and pelvic fracture and joint replacement in Basel- Switzerland, Seattle-USA and Paris- France. My additional training outside the UK exposed me to advanced surgical techniques with acknowledged leading Orthopaedic Surgeons of the World including Profs Muller, Kerboull and Judet in Europe and Dr Routt in the USA. I have given "key- note " lectures in Eire, Italy, Switzerland, South Africa and in french in Toulouse and Paris, France. I have published 4 book chapters, published or presented over 50 papers of original research in leading Orthopaedic Journals or at National or International meetings, both in my training and as a Consultant, the majority on joint replacement surgery. I am a member of the British and European Hip Societies, the French Trauma and Orthopaedic Society and the British Orthopaedic Study Group Away from the operating theatre I enjoy water and field sports , Real and Lawn tennis and Victorian Art .

I have 25 years of Consultant experience in joint replacement of the hip and knee and also specialise in revision, (re-do) hip replacement surgery. I lecture on aspects of hip surgery to trainees  ,fellow consultants and also lawyers .I review papers for medical journals including Hip International and still continue to present and publish clinical research . I have been an examiner for the FRCS Orth. Diploma for ten years and a Regional Clinical Co-Ordinator for the National Joint Registry of England and Wales. I am an acknowledged Expert Witness in both Personal Injury and Medical Negligence Law representing both claimants and defendants .
