This information is provided by Mr Geoffrey Roberts.
I'm a Consultant General and Upper Gastrointestinal (GI) Surgeon based in Oxford. My private practice is based at the Nuffield Oxford Manor Hospital and the Churchill Hospital. I offer care for conditions including hernias, gallstones, abdominal pain, hiatus hernia and gastro-oesophageal reflux. I am a Consultant at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, where I am clinical lead for the Surgical Emergency Unit. My higher surgical training was in the East of England and I completed a fellowship in oesophago-gastric surgery at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge. I hold a PhD from the Institute of Metabolic Science at the University of Cambridge, where I led studies examining the effect of stomach and oesophageal surgery on eating, sugar control and quality of life. I studied medicine at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, and Merton College, Oxford, graduating BMBCh with distinction from the University of Oxford in 2007. After completing my core training at Cambridge University I volunteered as a surgeon at St Francis’ Hospital, Katete, Zambia. Living and working in a different culture and healthcare system gave me a balanced perspective on life and medicine which influences me to this day. ? I have extensive experience in the management of hernias (using both keyhole and open techniques depending on the person and the hernia), gallstones, hiatus hernias and reflux. As a surgeon with a special interest in emergency care, I am keenly aware of the impact of timely care in people with acute abdominal pain, and the challenges and rewards of offering urgent treatment. In particular, I am part of a team offering acute gallbladder surgery ("hot" laparoscopic cholecystectomy) within the NHS and can comfortably offer gallbladder surgery even in the presence of acute infection.
General surgery - Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery • General surgery - Endoscopy • General surgery - Hernia Surgery • General surgery - Laparoscopic Surgery • General surgery - Reflux Disease • General surgery - Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Surgery
I have a keen interest in keyhole groin hernia surgery, offering day case surgery with the goal to get people back to normal activities as soon as possible with minimal need for post-op painkillers.
