I have been a Consultant Surgeon in the Ulster Hospital, South Eastern Trust for over 15 years, having completed my higher surgical training in General and Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery in Northern Ireland and Adelaide, South Australia. I am a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (General Surgery) and am a Graduate of Queens University Belfast. My degrees include BSc (Hons) (Intercalated) in Biochemistry, MB BCh BAO (with Honours) as well as higher degree by thesis (MD) investigating tumour angiogenesis and micro metastases in Oesophago-gastric cancer. I am the Northern Ireland Representative of the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland (ASGBI) as well as a member of the Association of Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeons (AUGIS). I am the Northern Ireland Regional Specialty Professional Advisor (RSPA) in General Surgery for the Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCSEng). I completed a specialist fellowship in Benign Oesophagogastric Surgery with Professor Glyn Jamieson, University of Adelaide and the Royal Adelaide Hospital in 2004. I am a recognised trainer of core and higher surgical trainees and teach Queens University 3rd and Final Year Medical Students attached to the Ulster Hospital.

I have a specialist interest in the surgical and non-surgical management of benign upper gastrointestinal conditions such as gastroesophageal reflux disease, hiatal hernias, achalasia and gallstones. I also have a specialist interest in the management of abdominal wall and groin hernias.
