I qualified in medicine from Leeds University, with honours and Gold medal in 1989. I was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in 1994. After postgraduate ophthalmology training in Leeds, Southampton, Liverpool and Moorfields (London), I was appointed consultant ophthalmic surgeon at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust in 2000. I specialise in cataract surgery (incl. multifocal and toric lenses) and in retinal diseases, for which I provide a Kent-wide tertiary referral service. I am a postgraduate trainer for cataract surgery for Kent, Surrey and Sussex Deanery and am a member of the examinations committee of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. I have carried out research in retinal diseases and have previously acted as lead researcher for Kent and Medway Comprehensive Local Research Network, incl. Principal Investigator in several national research trials. Acted as member of the NICE Adoption & Impact panel and the National Institute of Health Research Coordinating Centre. Consultant Appraiser, Risk lead and Serious Incident Investigator (Ophthalmology) Maidstone & Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust.
