Experience Mr Zaidi qualified and trained in London and is an experienced consultant ophthalmologist with over 14 years of consultant experience. He treats a broad spectrum of eye conditions and the full spectrum of emergency eye conditions. His first substantive consultant post was at NE London NHS Treatment Centre and Gillingham appointed in cataract surgery, medical retina and oculoplastic surgery. After this he was appointed as a substantive consultant at University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust where he has worked since 2017, when he was also appointed as clinical lead for SW London diabetic eye screening. One of his main responsibilities is as consultant lead for UHS NHS eye emergency, one of UHS's key priority services within ophthalmology. He also performs elective surgical operating lists and clinics at UHS, and supervises a broad range of trainee doctors and medical students. Since 2024 Mr Zaidi has been national clinical safety officer for a major digital retinal screening platform widely used by the NHS, and honorary clinical senior lecturer in the faculty of medicine at the University of Southampton.
