Fabio De Robertis, MD, is a surgeon with a specific interest in Structural Heart Disease and Hypertrophic CardioMyopathy (HCM). In 2009 he was appointed Consultant in Cardiac Surgery & Transplantation at the Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust, now part of Guy's & St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust . He obtained his undergraduate degree (MBBS equivalent) from the University of Naples Federico II (Magna cum Laude, MD with honours). During his studies he was awarded the Erasmus Fellowship that he spent at the Universite’ Catholique de Louvain in Belgium. After completing his post-graduate specialty training in Cardiac Surgery (Magna cum Laude) in Naples, he came to London to focus on complex cardiac conditions under the mentorship of Prof Sir Magdi Yacoub first and the Harefield and Brompton surgical schools later. Mr De Robertis has been the principal investigator in several trails and continues to extensively publish in peer reviewed journals. At his institution he is the lead surgeon for HOCM; chairperson of the aortic root and endocarditis MDT; and he is the audit lead for cardiac surgical outcomes in the Quality & Safety Department.

The diseases he treats range from structural heart problems (valves, ventricular aneurysms, rhythm disturbances, major aorta) through different forms of cardiomyopathies up to and including end stage cardiac failure. His area of expertise includes: septal myectomy, Ross procedure, valvular reconstructive surgery (aortic, mitral & tricuspid), valve replacement, surgery for atrial fibrillation, major aorta surgery including aortic arch, treatment of infective endocarditis on native and prosthetic valves, intra-thoracic organ transplantation and mechanical circulatory support. Redo surgery. Cardiac tumours. Pericardial disease. He also has a 30-year experience with beating heart techniques for myocardial revascularization (OPCAB and MIDCAB) utilising multiple arterial conduits (TAR - Total Arterial Revascularization).
