Dr. Evangelia (Lia) Panagou is an experienced Consultant Dermatologist with over nine years in the field and four years in consultancy. She has developed a strong interest in Oncodermatology, a branch of dermatology that focuses on managing side effects of cancer treatments that affect the skin, hair, and nails, with the goal of improving the quality of life for patients and preventing interruptions in cancer care. Dr. Panagou is highly dedicated to her work and has successfully established and run an Oncodermatology Clinic for patients with haematological malignancies at University College London Hospitals (UCLH) for the past two years. In addition to this, she has a special focus on conditions such as Immunobullous (blistering) diseases, psoriasis, eczema, and skin cancer. She is currently undertaking a research project on acne, a chronic skin condition that significantly impacts patients' psychological well-being. In response, she has set up an Acne Clinic that addresses the complex medical needs of patients suffering from this condition. Dr. Panagou is skilled in performing minor skin surgery, including skin biopsies, simple excisions, curettage and cautery, and triamcinolone (steroid) injections for keloid scars and alopecia (hair loss). Over her NHS career, she has performed more than 2,000 minor skin procedures, including over 700 simple excisions, 900 punch biopsies, 300 curettage and cautery procedures, 300 shave biopsies, and 50 steroid injections for keloid scars and alopecia. In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Panagou plays a vital role in medical education, coordinating medical student teaching and overseeing student placements in dermatology clinics.
