Dr Vishal Luther

I am a Consultant Cardiologist/ Electrophysiologist based at the Liverpool Heart & Chest Hospital (LHCH) & Spire Liverpool.   I care for patients with heart rhythm disorders, undertaking all forms of ablation procedures and implanting pacemaker/defibrillators.  During my time in practice, I have been awarded 3 local clinical excellence awards , and a national IWantGreatCare certificate of excellence. I graduated in medicine from University College London, with Distinctions in all phases of medical school. I trained in Cardiology in the London Northwest Thames deanery, and subspecialised in heart rhythm management at the prestigious Hammersmith/St Mary’s Hospitals, where I achieved full certification as a specialist in cardiac electrophysiology (ECES) and cardiac devices (ECDS) by the European Heart Rhythm Association. I am the founder of www.cardiowebinar.com, which offers a programme of ~100 free webinars mapped to the cardiology curriculum.  This includes an Advanced Heart Rhythm section where I have chaired talks with experts from across the world.  The program was a finalist in the 2023 Health Service Journal Partnership award in as the “best educational programme in the NHS”. I am the Associate Chief Clinical Information Officer at LHCH, a HIMMS 7 organisation, driving the trusts digital aspirations to improve cardiology care.  In this role, I have created a series of patient videos explaining common arrhythmia procedures https://www.lhch.nhs.uk/our-services/cardiology/heart-rhythm-management/catheter-ablation/. I have been faculty for the “Arrythmia Alliance” and “A-Fib Association” national Patient education days, annually speaking to small and large patient groups.  I am an Advanced Life Support instructor and led the production of a simulation video of cardiac arrest in Covid-19 that has received well over 100,000 views.

I am a high-volume operator in heart rhythm ablation.  I have a PhD (Imperial College London) and several first/senior author publications studying advanced 3D mapping techniques in these ablations and was recipient of the prestigious Heart Rhythm Society 2019 “Eric Prystowsky Fellow Clinical Researcher Award” for the highest scoring abstract involving this research.  As a consultant, I have completed a 2yr NIHR research scholarship, and am chief investigator for an NIHR portfolio adopted multicentre UK randomised trial (Ripple AT Plus) exploring optimal mapping and ablation strategies in patients with atrial tachycardia.  I have earned an international reputation amongst ablation experts with regular invitations to speak at EP meeting and write editorials in EP journals; I am responsible for organising the  programme the Advanced VT ablation programme for the British Heart Rhythm Society annual meetings.
