Dr Somnath Mukherjee

Professor Somnath Mukherjee, MD, FRCR, FRCP Associate Professor and Consultant Oncologist, University of Oxford Professor Somnath Mukherjee is a consultant clinical oncologist specialising in GI cancers and SABR and leads the upper GI and pancreatic radiation services at the Oxford Cancer Centre. He completed his Oncology training in South Wales and was a consultant at Velindre Cancer Centre (2004-2009) before moving to Northampton and thereafter to Oxford in 2012. His clinical expertise includes complex radiotherapy (including stereotactic radiotherapy and MR guided radiotherapy) in upper gastro-intestinal, hepato-biliary & pancreatic and rectal cancers. He led the development of pancreatic RT including SABR in the UK and is internationally recognised for his contribution in pancreatic and oesophageal cancer research, including leading multi-centre trials like SCALOP, SCALOP 2, CYTOFLOC and the phase 1 EMERALD trial (first trial investigating single fraction SABR for pancreatic cancer using MR Linac). He has been a member of the pancreas and oesophageal sub-group of the National Cancer Research Institute and is a member of the ESTRO guidelines sub-group for upper GI cancers. He has been involved in developing the ASCO guidelines for Localised pancreatic cancer, the NICE guidelines for pancreatic cancer and the European Consensus (ESTRO) guidelines for pancreatic radiotherapy.
