Dr Sofia Metaxa

Dr Sofia Metaxa Consultant Cardiologist, MD PhD Dr Sofia Metaxa qualified from Athens Medical School in 2003. She subsequently achieved master’s degree in Coronary Care Units. She pursued with doctoral research in genetic polymorphisms of ischaemic heart disease and was awarded her PhD from Athens Medical School. She underwent post-graduate specialist clinical training in Athens, gained a wealth of experience and obtained Certificate of Completion of Training in Cardiology in 2013.Dr Metaxa has an extensive background in the management of complex cardiac problems and passionately believes that cardiac treatment should be tailored to the individual needs of each patient. Her clinical practice covers all aspects of general cardiology including hypertension, coronary artery disease, hyperlipidaemia, arrhythmia, syncope, structural heart disease and complex syndrome of heart failure. She is Heart Failure Specialist and holds Heart Failure Accreditation by European Heart Failure Association. She has special interest in devices and stress echocardiography. She performs cardiac procedures including implanting single and dual chamber pacemakers, LBB pacing, defibrillators, and cardiac loop recorders. She is a member of British Society of Echocardiography (BSE) and holds accreditation in Adult Transthoracic Echocardiography and Stress Echocardiography.   Dr Metaxa has authored several publications in peer-reviewed medical journals and is actively involved in educating medical students, junior hospital doctors and provides supervision to cardiology trainee doctors.
