GMC reg: 4156118Training and Experience: Dr Shelley Rahman Haley qualified with honours from Cambridge University School of Clinical Medicine in 1995. She trained in cardiology with a subspecialty interest in non-interventional cardiology, echocardiography and cardiac imaging at Papworth, Royal Brompton and St Thomas’s Hospitals before being appointed to Harefield in 2007 as the first Clinical Lead for Echocardiography. Under her guidance the Department of Echocardiography at Harefield has doubled in size and throughput; and provides the very latest in imaging techniques including real-time 3D transthoracic and transoesophageal echocardiography, strain imaging and all types of stress echocardiography.Clinical and Research InterestsDr Rahman Haley has a particular interest in adult heart valve disease, particularly complex mitral and aortic valve disease and transoesophageal echocardiography. She works very closely with the surgical teams at Harefield hospital, assessing patients who may require surgery and monitoring their progress afterwards. She is often to be found performing scans in theatre as her patients undergo complex surgery. Dr Rahman Haley also has a special interest in cardio-oncology, or heart problems in cancer patients, often those who are undergoing chemotherapy or other treatment which may affect the heart. She runs a cardio-oncology clinic in liaison with the nearby Mount Vernon Cancer Centre. Research for her doctoral thesis focussed on cardiac imaging techniques in women and was completed at Royal Brompton Hospital in the departments of nuclear cardiology and cardiovascular magnetic resonance in 2001 with the higher degree subsequently awarded by the University of Cambridge. Dr Rahman Haley now focuses on research connected with mechanical circulatory support, cardiac transplantation and heart valve disease. She has co-authored recent publications in high-impact journals including The European Heart Journal – Cardiovascular Imaging, Circulation and The Journal of the American College of Cardiology.
