GMC reg: 7014195Dr Islam is a Consultant Cardiologist at the Royal Berkshire Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. He offers private consultations at the Circle Hospital, the Spire Dunedin and the Berkshire Clinic covering Reading and surrounding areas. He consults patients presenting with chest pain, breathlessness, palpitations, blackouts, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, valvular heart disease, heart muscle disease and conducts pre-operative assessment prior to non-cardiac surgery. Dr Islam strives to provide a very comprehensive and compassionate management for his patients, involving them in all decision making to achieve best evidence based outcomes at all times. After obtaining primary medical qualification (MBBS) with Merit from Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’s School of Medicine in 2008, Dr Islam was awarded membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP), London in 2012. He has over 10yrs experience in cardiology training across some of best centers in the UK including the Bart's Heart Centre in London and the Essex Cardiothoracic Centre in Essex. He had dedicated fellowship in all aspects of coronary intervention and heart function impairment. In addition, he also performs non-invasive imaging using echocardiography, CT coronary angiogram and implantation permanent pacemaker systems. Dr Islam has academic interest in cardiovascular medicine having pursued 2 years of full-time clinical research, for which he was awarded MD (Res) in 2015. He published in several peer reviewed journals. He is particularly interested in post-resuscitation care for cardiac arrest survivors and cardiac rehabilitation following critical illness. He is the current Clinical Lead for Cardiac Rehabilitation at the Royal Berkshire Hospital.

Dr Islam offers comprehensive assessment and management for diverse heart related conditions including ischaemic heart disease, heart function impairment, arrhythmia, hypertension, hyperlipidemia and pre-operative assessment prior to non-cardiac surgery. The investigations offered include the following: 12 lead ECG (Electrocardiogram) 24 hour, 72 hour and extended ECG monitoring Echocardiogram Stress Echocardiogram Exercise treadmill test 24 hour blood pressure monitoring CT Coronary Angiography Cardiac MRI (for viability and ischaemia assessment) Blood tests to investigate hyperlipidemia, secondary causes of hypertension Procedures Dr Islam performs the following cardiac procedures Coronary angiography including study of previous coronary artery bypass grafts using radial and femoral arteries Physiological assessment with Pressure wire assessment of coronary arteries (FFR, iFR) Coronary Imaging using Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS) and Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) Calcium modification with Shockwave lithotripsy (IVL) and Rotational Atherectomy Coronary angioplasty and Stenting (PCI) Treatment of chronic total occlusions of coronary arteries Implantation of cardiac monitors such as LINQ device Cardioversions Implantation of permanent pacemakers
