GMC reg: 6100088Dr. Sami has practiced and trained at world renowned centres of excellence both in the USA (Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN) and the UK (University College Hospital, London). He is one of a select few Gastroenterologists in the country who have been able to achieve this level of expertise and knowledge. He also works as a private Gastroenterologist based in central London at the Digestive Health UK clinic. Dr. Sami offers appointments to both UK and international patients. He trained in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology at centres of excellence both in the UK and the USA at Mayo Clinic Rochester which was recently ranked as the #1 hospital in the world! During his training, he completed a prestigious National Endoscopy Research Fellowship at the NIHR Nottingham Biomedical Research Centre leading to the award of a PhD on the evaluation of minimally invasive screening tools for Barrett’s oesophagus and oesophageal varices. Since receiving his Post Graduate Certificate in Medical Education (PGCME) degree, he took on many teaching roles both in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching capacities as well as serving as a permanent and invited faculty member and speaker on several national and international courses and workshops. He is the director of the UCL Upper GI Symposium (UGIS) which is an annual course aimed at doctors in surgery (ENT) and medicine as well as nurses, and trainees. At a clinical care and service delivery level, Dr. Sami is a comprehensively trained Physician and Gastroenterologist in all medical aspects of GI. He previously co-led the set up and pilot services delivery of a one stop transnasal endoscopy clinic. This has since been commissioned into a full service for all patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease, difficulty swallowing, chest pain, and other stomach and throat symptoms. Dr Sami is proud to be the recipient of several awards including: the Cook Medical Marsha Dreyer award from the American Society for GI Endoscopy (ASGE); the British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG) out of programme award; and more recently, the Fellows-in-training award from the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG). He is also the lead author and co-author of over 40 high impact peer-reviewed publications and research abstracts in the field of Gastroenterology including the current UK guidelines on oesophageal dilatation. He is an expert in the assessment and treatment of a variety of digestive system symptoms and conditions, such as: – Acid reflux, heartburn, and indigestion – Swallowing problems, belching and throat clearing – Abdominal pain and bloating – Nausea and vomiting – Irritable bowel syndrome, diarrhoea, and constipation. – Bowel cancer screening – Inflammatory bowel disease – Coeliac disease
