Dr Rhys Anthony Hewett

Dr Hewett is an experienced gastroenterologist working at Spire Hospital Cardiff. He specialises in diagnosing and managing problems such as gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, dyspepsia, GI dysmotility, gastroparesis, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, malabsorption, inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome and functional bowel disorders. Dr Hewett is an experienced endoscopist and has performed thousands of upper and lower GI endoscopies. Dr Hewett undertook both his undergraduate and postgraduate training in London. He holds an MBBS degree from St George's University of London, an MSc in nutrition from King's College, London and a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree in oesophageal disease from the University of London. He is a fellow of the royal college of physicians in London

Dr Hewett specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of oesophageal diseases and functional bowel disorders. Dr Hewett trained for three years at the upper gastrointestinal (GI) physiology unit at the Royal London hospital. Dr Hewett is an expert in clinical nutrition; he ran the Welsh intestinal failure service between 2017 and 2024. Dr Hewett is accrediting to be a national bowel screening colonoscopist and is training in advanced endoscopy. His NHS clinical practice is exclusively out-patient diagnostic clinics and endoscopy.
