GMC reg: 4639765I completed a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago (1994) and medical education from Edinburgh Medical School (1999). I then trained in Gastroenterology at Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospitals, Kings College Hospital and South East Thames. I completed my PhD at Kings College London in 2012. I was awarded the higher certificate of training in Gastroenterology and General (Internal) Medicine in 2013 and was appointed as consultant in Gastroenterology and Upper GI Medicine at UCLH in April 2014. I am Upper GI Physiology Unit Lead at UCLH and I am Honorary Clinical Associate Professor at UCL. I am President of the Association of GI Physiologists and an active member of the Oesophageal section as well as the Neurogastroenterology & Motility section committeesof the British Society of Gastroenterology. Furthermore, I am an active member of the High Resolution Manometry Working Group, an International group aimed at defining disorders of swallowing. My research interests primarily centre on investigating the utility of novel technology and methodology in oesophageal physiology testing; catheter and wireless pH-monitoring for reflux disease and High Resolution Manometry for swallowing disorders. I also research how such (and other) tools can be used to aid in treating complex-benign upper GI disorders such as achalasia. I continue to publish and collaborate with fellow experts and oesophageal units in the UK and abroad and I am frequently invited to speak at national and international conferences. As a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) at UCL, I have an avid interest in teaching and training. This is not only classroom and bedside teaching of students and junior doctors, but also advanced endoscopic techniques including Per-oral Endoscopy Myotomy (POEM), Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR) and Barrett’s ablative therapy (Halo). I regularly organise and chair Upper GI Symposia as well as Hands-on Training courses in Upper GI physiology. As a Therapeutic Endoscopist, I regularly teach on live endoscopy workshops with particular emphasis on oesophageal and stomach early cancers and complex benign upper GI disorders.
