GMC reg: 7040446Dr Frank Phillips is Consultant Gastroenterologist at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, with a unique position as a key member of both the clinical nutrition and inflammatory bowel disease teams. This includes Tertiary Centre assessment and management of complex inflammatory bowel disease, intestinal failure and feeding tube related complications. He also has an extensive general gastroenterology practice, with a track record of introducing novel treatments for common conditions such as diarrhoea and acid reflux. He performs high quality diagnostic endoscopy, with colonoscopy completion rates consistently above 98 per cent, excellent patient comfort scores due to water-assisted insertion techniques and high en-bloc resection rates due to underwater polyp removals. He also provide more specialist endoscopy related to nutrition and IBD. His training and clinical experience is both comprehensive and of the highest quality. He has degrees in both Biochemistry, University of Bristol, and Medicine & Surgery, St Georges, University of London, achieving a Distinction in Medical Sciences. General medical training in London included rotations at St George's, The Royal Brompton, The Royal Marsden, and The Royal London Hospitals. Specialist gastroenterology training has been enhanced with fellowships in clinical nutrition and IBD at the world renowned specialist centres of St Marks Hospital, London, and Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge. He then undertook a training fellowship in advanced endoscopy at Nottingham University Hospitals. More recently, he led and delivered innovative translational research on the safety of endoscopy in the COVID era and has organised NUH to be part of the pilot study for the National Audit for Post-Endoscopy Upper Gastrointestinal Cancers, an important development for quality of endoscopy. He has a number of first author publications in high impact journals and has given oral presentations of his research nationally and internationally in both Europe and the USA, winning a British Society of Gastroenterology Research Prize along the way. He continues to be involved in training of colleagues and junior doctors at all levels.
