Cardiology - General Cardiology • Cardiology - Interventional Cardiology
I am a full time NHS consultant cardiologist at Royal Papworth Hospital but also see private patients at Royal Papworth and Nuffield Health Cambridge. I treat patients with both general cardiology and specialist problems. Some of the conditions and symptoms I treat are below. I am fortune to receive referrals from throughout the UK and abroad to manage these conditions. Health Prevention: check ups for cholesterol, blood pressure, cardiovascular health General Cardiology: including chest pain, murmurs and valve disease, palpitation/arrhythmia, dizziness/blackout, shortness of breath, heart failure, hypertension, rheumatic heart disease Coronary Disease: assessment and treatment of coronary artery disease (stable angina and myocardial infarction) including angiography and angioplasty and stenting (PCI), pressure wire (FFR), intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) and optical coherence tomography (OCT) Structural Heart Disease (eg valves and holes in the heart): assessment and treatment of structural cardiac problems including valve disease and septal defects. Percutaneous (keyhole) repair of mitral valve (Mitraclip) and percutaneous mitral valvuloplasty. Percutaneous closure of atrial septal defect (ASD) and patent foramen ovale (PFO) (for cryptogenic stroke and diving). Percutaneous closure for paravalvular leak and post-infarction ventricular septal defect. Percutaneous device closure of left atrial appendage for stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation. Clinical results: For the past 3 years I have been congratulated by the government on achieving clinical outcomes from PCI (angioplasty and stenting) significantly better than predicated (actual patient survival 99.4% v predicated survival 97.7% over 726 PCI procedures). I also have excellent outcomes for my structural heart procedures.
