GMC reg: 3200061Dr Sengupta is a Consultant Gynaecologist who has been the lead clinician for gynaecological cancer in County Durham since 2004. He is also an accredited specialist in Colposcopy as part of the national cervical screening programme. He has completed a research degree into the molecular biology of ovarian cancer in the Christie Cancer Hospital, Manchester. Subsequently he completed a Master of Science degree from the University of Surrey as part of his training in advanced gyanecological laparoscopic surgery. His clinical expertise includes rapid cancer diagnosis and covers the investigation and management of endometrial cancer, ovarian cysts and uterine fibroids, cervical and vulval disease, menstrual and postmenopausal bleeding, endometriosis and chronic pelvic pain. Whenever surgery is required he offers laparoscopic or keyhole techniques whenever possible. . He set up a one-stop rapid access gynaecological cancer diagnostic service in his department following his appointment. Dr Sengupta has been on the Council for the British Gynaecological Cancer Society and British Society for Colposcopy & Cervical Pathology and has been actively involved in both of these national organisations. He has also acted as local Principal Investigator for a number of national research trials. Currently he is training to become accredited in Robotic Assisted Gyanecological Surgery using the Intuitive da VInci Xi Robot in County Durham & Darlington. Dr Sengupta is focused on the best care for his patients and ensuring they have the neccessary information to make an informed choice in the management of their conditions.
