GMC reg: 4417804Dr Mark Williams undertook his undergraduate studies in medicine and surgery at Kings College School of Medicine and Dentistry, University of London (now part of GKT School of medical education). He undertook his training as a senior house office at a training rotation formed between East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust and the Royal Free Hampstead NHS Foundation Trust. During this time, he successfully completed the Royal College examinations and became a Member of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of England in the year 2000. He then worked at the Royal Brompton Hospital prior to commencing specialist training in Cardiology. He undertook a clinical research fellowship in Systemic sclerosis-associated pulmonary arterial hypertension at the Royal Free Hospital and was subsequently awarded an MD in Clinical research from the University of London. Dr Williams completed his specialist training in interventional cardiology in the South East Thames region. He trained in Interventional Cardiology at the Royal Sussex County Hospital (Brighton) and King’s College NHS Foundation Trust. On completion of his training in 2011, he appointed as Locum Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, prior to obtaining a substantive post as Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in 2013. Since being at Ashford and St Peter’s, Dr Williams has played a key role in establishing the primary percutaneous intervention (PPCI) service for the prompt treatment of myocardial infarction (heart attacks). This has meant that patients from the local population no longer have to be brought to London or further away in Surrey, for such treatments, allowing for better outcomes. In recognition of his exceptional contribution, Dr Williams was elected a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in July 2017. He has served as Clinical Director in Cardiology at Ashford & St Peter’s Hospital, where he continued to make a significant impact in the field of Interventional Cardiology. Dr Mark Williams has made significant contributions to medical education and research alongside his busy practice as a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist. As an honorary Senior Lecturer at St George’s Hospital School of Medicine, he has taught medical colleagues. He has been the lead for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in Cardiology at Ashford & St Peter’s Hospitals. His dedication to teaching has been recognized and he has been a recipient of a number of teaching excellence awards. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Dr Williams has also published in peer-reviewed journals and contributed to local research and development teams. Through his unwavering commitment to education and research, Dr Mark Williams has demonstrated his passion for advancing the field of cardiology and improving patient outcomes.
