Dr Kate Nash

I undertook hepatology and gastroenterology training in Cambridge and Edinburgh before taking up my current post as consultant hepatologist in Southampton in 2008. I am a fully accredited hepatologist and am on the specialist register for hepatology, gastroenterology and general medicine. I see patients with all aspects of liver disease and manage upper gastrointestinal diseases including performing gastroscopy. In addition to my clinical duties, I have a very active role in teaching and reasearch. I have been the Wessex gastroenterology programme director since 2014 and manage the training of gastroenterology registrars across the region. In addition I am the Guardian of Safe working at the university Hospital Southampton and am responsible for ensuring the safe working hours of all doctors in training. I have  published a textbook on hepatology for medical students and junior doctors and have published many research and review articles. I have advised NICE on the use of antiviral agents for treating hepatitis B and C and have previously been the Hampshire comprehensive local research network lead for hepatology research (2010 - 2014).

I am on the specialist register for gastroenterology, hepatology and general medicine. My main area of expertise is managing patients with all aspects of liver disease. I see patients with abnormal liver blood tests, abnormal liver radiology results, abdominal symptoms and those who have risk factors for liver disease and wish to assess their liver health. In addition I see patients with symptoms from the upper gastrointestinal tract such as heart burn, indigestion and swallowing difficulties. I undertake gastroscopy procedures.
