Dr Jide Menakaya

Dr Jide Menakaya was appointed a Consultant Neonatal Paediatrician in 2003 to Hillingdon Hospital Middlesex after specialist training in paediatrics and neonatal medicine in Hampshire, West Midlands and Australia. In 2007, he was appointed Honorary Consultant Paediatrician in paediatric gastroenterology at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, London. He is the Founder and Clinical Lead for The PURA Service, a pioneering multi-disciplinary clinical programme that aims to improve the quality of care that constipated and encopretic children receive. He is experienced in the assessment and management of most general conditions that affect children. In addition, he has particular expertise in paediatric gastro-enterology conditions such as constipation and soiling, abdominal pain in children, coeliac disease and conditions that affect new born babies and their development in the first few years of life. He is well versed in general paediatric and specialist neonatal clinical care. He has set up specialist services for children with constipation and soiling and for babies with jaundice. He is an instructor in Neonatal Life Support and a provider of Advanced Paediatric Life Support with the Resuscitation Council UK. He has a passion for promoting the health of all children and will work with children, their families and a multi-disciplinary team of professionals, holistically, to ensure that they return to full health as quickly as possible. He has published and presented his work at prestigious international conferences. His professional interests include coeliac disease and functional gastrointestinal disorders such as constipation, gastro-esophageal reflux disease, abdominal migraine, abdominal pain in childhood; neonatal medicine;general paediatric disorders, child hood nutrition in particular faltering growth, micronutrient deficiency. In addition to his duties as a consultant paediatrician, his other roles include his work as a clinical educator and mentor for doctors in training and trainer for hospital professionals in newborn life support skills. He is also a qualified instructor with the UK Resuscitation Council. He is a provider of  Paediatric Services to American Forces Overseas. He is a Fellow in Quality Improvement in Healthcare with the National Institute for Health Research UK. He led a team that was nominated a Finalist in the Quality Improvement Team of the Year category at the prestigious BMJ Awards 2021 and another team for the 2022 British Association of Perinatal Medicine Award for Best National Project. Dr Menakaya specialises in all aspects of general paediatric illness and care of the newborn baby - including care of the premature baby. He is married and lives in London with his wife and two children.
