GMC reg: 3549586I was born in Japan and lived in Hong Kong where I studied with the British children. I graduated from Bristol University in 1991 and have trained clinically in the UK. My specialist training took place in Glasgow, having also carried out a research job at Glasgow University looking at Barrett's oesopahgus and cancer of the oesopahgus, and appointed as a consultant Gastroenterologist at the Southern General Hospital (now the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital) in 2006. I look after patients with digestive disorders and general medical in-patients. I supervise medical students form Glasgow University as well as supervising and training junior doctors, including gastroenteology trainees. I believe that adequate time should be given to consultations to ensure patients understand what has been discussed and patients go home satisfied with the consultation.
Gastroenterology
Japanese
My interest includes any aspect of luminal gastroenterology (excludes liver and specialist pancreatic diseases). I specialise in the investigations of digestive disorders which include anaemia, indigestion, swallowing issues, altered bowel habit including diarrhoea and constipation. Diseases include gastro-oeosphageal reflux, dyspepsia and peptic ulcer diseases, coeliac disease, irritable bowel syndrome, and especially inflammatory bowel diseases (Ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease). Procedures carried out: 1. diagnostic and therapeutic gastroscopy (upper GI endoscopy) which include treatment for bleeding ulcers and varices, dilation (stretching) narrowed oesopahgus (strictures). 2. diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy, which include removal of polyps and bowel cancer screening. My colonoscopy complete examination rate for 2018 was 97.5%, polyp detection of 48% and adenoma detection rate of 34%, all of which comfortably exceeds standards set by the British Society of Gastroenterology. 3. small bowel capsule endoscopy and balloon enterscopy to examine the deep into the small bowel (the latter is only carried out in my NHS practice).
