Dr Esther Unitt

Dr Esther Unitt graduated from medical school at Nottingham University, and underwent higher specialist training in Gastroenterology and Medicine in East Anglia, obtaining MRCP in 1998 and CCST (Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training) in 2006. Most of her postgraduate training took place at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, including several years on the Liver Unit where her research on the Liver Unit led to the award of a Doctorate in Medicine from Nottingham University in 2007. She has been a Consultant Gastroenterologist at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust (UHCW) since January 2007 and was elected FRCP in 2012. She has been the clinical lead for the Gastroenterology Service at UHCW since June 2024 Dr Unitt is the clinical lead for hepatology (liver disease) and for the alcohol service at UHCW. She also leads the postgraduate education for the gastroenterology department. She has an interest in research and actively recruits to a number of CLRN (Comprehensive Local Research Network) studies.

Dr Esther Unitt is able to offer a comprehensive Gastroenterology service including consultation and endoscopy at The Meriden Hospital. As well as expertise in general gastroenterology, Dr Unitt has a specific interest in liver disease, and the management of its complications. She also performs liver fibroscan. Dr Unitt is happy to see referrals regarding all aspects of liver disease, reflux and dyspepsia, inflammatory bowel disease and irritable bowel syndrome, altered bowel habit and also suspected upper and lower GI cancer. Endoscopy procedures she provides include: Diagnostic and therapeutic upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, Flexible sigmoidoscopy, Diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy, Diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic ultrasound of upper GI tract, liver and pancreas
