Dr Dion Alexandrou

I am practicing paediatrics at a senior level as a consultant since 2005. I held clinical appointments in Paediatrics & Neonatal Medicine in leading UK hospitals, such as the Chelsea & Westminster Hospital and St George’s Hospital in London, and the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. I have particular experience and expertise in the management of the newborn and the early years of life to school age and I recently obtained the Diploma in Paediatric Infectious Diseases and Vaccines at Oxford University. I held academic appointments as Lecturer in Child Health at St George’s Medical School, London, where I did my research in lung development and I lectured Paediatrics to medical students. I was Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at the Imperial College School of Medicine and I lectured paediatrics to medical students at Oxford. I expanded my experience overseas with a fellowship in perinatal medicine at the Western University, London, Ontario, Canada. I am an instructor and Medical Director for Neonatal Life Support (NLS), a national training programme of the Resuscitation Council UK, regularly teaching management of the newborn to a wide range of clinicians at a national level. I pioneered the Newborn and Infant Physical Examination (NIPE) Screening Programme for midwives at the Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, London, and I trained clinicians in the newborn and the 6-8 week infant examination. My NHS base is at the Richard Desmond Children’s Hospital, Moorfields NHS Trust, where I am appointed Consultant Paediatrician since January 2015 and the Named Doctor for safeguarding children. My private practice is based at the Portland Hospital for Women and Children, HCA Healthcare. I offer outpatients consultations, in-patient care and supporting the newly established Urgent Care Centre.

My special interests include problems of the newborn infant and early life, including jaundice of the newborn, unsettled babies and gastro-oesophageal reflux, feeding and growth problems and advice on immunisation, wheeziness and chronic cough, constipation, skin conditions and infections.
