GMC reg: 2941156After initial training in Gastroenterology at Charing Cross Hospital, Dr Sherman trained in hepatobiliary disease at the Institute of Liver Studies King's College Hospital over a 4 year period, where he also completed an MD thesis on the basis of susceptibility to alcohol-induced liver damage. Following this he trained at the inflammatory bowel disease unit at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham. He was appointed as consultant gastroenterologist at Central Middlesex Hospital in 1996, and since 2009 has also worked at Northwick Park and St Mark's hospitals. In addition to a very broad NHS practice encompassing a wide range of gastroenterology and general internal medicine, he has developed specialist interests in liver and biliary disease, and therapeutic endoscopy including ERCP. In addition, Dr Sherman has a longstanding interest in medicines management and therapeutics. He is Chair of the London North West Healthcare Trust's Drug & Therapeutics group, vice-Chair of the North West London Integrated Formulary new drugs panel, and a member of the London Regional Medicines Optimisation Committee. He is also joint lead investigator of a clinical research programme looking into the non-invasive assessment of liver disease by elastography. He was a clinical advisor to a NICE panel in this area, and has presented the results of this work at both national and international meetings. He also has an established medico-legal pratice, which includes both personal injury and medical negligence work.
