GMC reg: 4415297Dr Smith trained in medicine at St Mary's Hospital Medical School in London. His cardiology training was at the Bristol Heart Institute which also afforded the opportunity of period of research involving the then-novel imaging technique of CT Coronary Angiography , a non-invasive scan to show coronary and cardiac anatomy which has now become the NICE-recommended first-line investigation into chest pain. He went on to complete training, subspecialising in coronary intervention. He was made a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in 2017 and is a member of the British Cardiovascular Intervention Intervention Society.
Cardiology - Interventional Cardiology
Dr Smith has been a Consultant Cardiologist for the NHS at Worcestershire Royal Hospital since 2012. He has a broad experience in all aspects of general cardiology including angina, palpatation, dizziness and valvular heart disease. He is a member of the emergency heart attack service providing primary angioplasty (or "stenting"). He has weekly lists in the catheter lab and is experienced in all aspects of complex stenting procedures . In 2015 he set up the region's chronic total occlusion service treating blocked arteries that can be a long-term cause of difficult to treat angina. He leads the Trust's chest pain assessment team and with a radiology colleague provides the CT coronary angiography service . In the private sector he has access to all diagnostics and therapeutic procedures required and through his time spent in the region has grown a network of subspeciality colleagues and cardiac surgeons to refer to if necessary. He runs the regions only private Cardiac CT service.
