This information is provided by Dr Andrew Johnston.
GMC reg: 4153603After medical school at Cambridge University, I completed my intensive care and anaesthetic training in Cambridge and University College London before being appointed as a consultant in Cambridge in 2006. Most of my clinical practice is dedicated to intensive care and vascular access. I am a Consultant Intensivist in a busy 32 bed general adult intensive care, the John Farman ICU. The ICU admits approximately 1500 patients per year from most major medical and surgical specialities – the majority of which are emergency admissions. The ICU team has particular expertise in hepatology and transplantation, and in the management of complex patients with multiple organ failure. The ICU consultants are also responsible for the Rapid Response Team, which provides urgent assessment and care of deteriorating adult patients in the hospital and leads the resuscitation team. I am the medical lead for the pioneering vascular access team at the hospital and offer a comprehensive vascular access service covering all aspects of insertion, care, and removal of central venous lines and portacaths. My anaesthetic practice is broad but is focused on upper gastrointestinal surgery and laparoscopic surgery.
