Ms Diana Urbaneja Mejias

Ms Urbaneja is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend, specialising in cataract and glaucoma management, including laser procedures such as Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT), in addition to Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS) and complex glaucoma procedures (Aqueous Shunts).   After graduating from medical school at the Central University of Venezuela in Caracas, Ms Urbaneja completed her ophthalmology training in Madrid, Spain. She went on to complete three glaucoma fellowships in Barcelona, Cardiff and London, the latter at the prestigious Moorfields Eye Hospital.   Ms Urbaneja is the glaucoma lead for Cwm Taf Morgannwg Health Board, and has contributed to reduced waiting times and earlier detection for glaucoma patients. She is also a member of one of the largest European investigation groups for the Paul Glaucoma Implant. Ms Urbaneja is currently working on a study for the detection of acute angle closure glaucoma using anterior segment OCT to better identify those at higher risk of the disease.
