Mr Dhiren Nehra has been working as a consultant surgeon at Epsom & St Helier University Hospitals since 1999. He graduated in 1983 in Bombay with a Masters in General Surgery, and then underwent higher training in Wales specialising in Upper GI Surgery and culminating in FRCS (Gen Surg) with Mphil Thesis on 'Bile Reflux in Barrett's Oesophagus'. He gained vast experience at the University Hospital California, USA under Professor Tom DeMeester (world renowned for his work in foregut and oesophageal diseases), and also at the National Cancer Hospital in Japan. More recently, he undertook a sabbatical year working in New Zealand.Training and research have always been important aspects to his career. He has been a London Deanery Surgical Tutor for many years and has taught in many countries such as India, Malawi and Romania. He has been the cancer specialist for South West Thames upper GI cancer network. His research work was carried out in the USA and specialised in reflux, biliary and hernia surgery. He has extensive publications on reflux disease and oesophageal diseases. Mr Nehra specialises in Laparoscopic and General Gastrointestinal Surgery. He has developed his own surgical technique for mini-incision inguinal hernia repair and incisional hernia repair (which can be performed under local anaesthetic), and has been accredited to carry out the new anti-reflux magnetic titanium ring LINX implant procedure in the UK. He holds private consultations and carries out surgical treatments at both Spire St Anthony's Hospital and Ashtead Hospital.
