He gained a doctoral degree for his research in viral hepatitis in liver transplant patients. His areas of specialist interests are in all aspects of liver disease including alcohol disorders, viral hepatitis, liver failure and transplantation, as well as stomach and bowel disorders, therapeutic endoscopy and ERCP.
