I am Associate Medical Director of Swanse University Health Board, having been Clinical Director for Plastic Surgery and Burns at the Welsh Centre for Burns and Plastic Surgery for many years. After qualifying as a doctor in 1990, I underwent 13 years of surgical training in Wales, Liverpool, Birmingham, Manchester, and Sydney Australia, returning to Wales as a consultant plastic surgeon in 2003 after being elected to the UK specialist register for plastic and reconstructive surgery. I was awarded a Postgraduate Doctorate after research into human and scarless wound healing, and maintain a strong research interest in this and other areas, having published over 60 peer reviewed articles and book chapters. In recognition of my research I was made a Hunterian Professor by the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2003. I am elected Council Member of the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgeons, and was elected President of the British Society for Surgery of the Hand, for which organisation I am currently the International Liaison. I am a Senior Clinical Lecturer in Plastic Surgery and a member of the Court of Examiners for the FRCS(Plast) examinations (the examination which allows Surgeons to become consultants in the UK). I was given the honour of hosting these important international examinations in Wales in 2015. I have a strong interest in Training, having been Education Chair of the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons In my training I underwent subspecialist training in general hand, congenital hand, cerebral palsy, brachial plexus and peripheral nerve surgery at the University Hospitals of South Manchester and the Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney. In my NHS practice, I run a tertiary referral service for complex hand and nerve injuries for Wales and beyond and regularly operate on the brachial plexus as part of my normal practice. I lead the Welsh Peripheral Nerve Surgery Unit, which I founded in 2005, and which has now expanded to 3 consultants. This Unit receive complex nerve referrals from all over Wales and the South West. I established a private practice in cosmetic surgery in 2003 and practice in 3 independent hospitals across South Wales, offering wide a range of cosmetic surgery procedures, a large part of which is breast surgery and body contouring. I have a relaxed style, which is detailed and individualised to each patient. The highest standards of patient care and safety are paramount, and my complication and revision rates are among the lowest in the UK.
