Mr David Monk qualified from Liverpool Medical School in 1986 and trained in surgery in the Manchester region. Mr Monk worked as a consultant surgeon in the NHS at the Countess of Chester hospital from 1998 to 2017. He was a clinical director of surgery from 2008 to 2016. In 2017 Mr Monk moved to the United Arab Emirates to work for the government hospital system in Al Ain and Abu Dhabi. In addition to his surgical interests he is interested in education in the clinical setting of the caregiving team to optimise the provision of high quality healthcare. He also has an interest in human factors and its application to optimising surgical teamwork.
