Ms Daniela Vaideanu-Collins

Miss Daniela Vaideanu-Collins is a highly qualified consultant Ophthalmologist, with 25 years experience in Ophthalmology and 15 years experience in vitreo-retinal surgery. Her NHS base is at James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough and also practise privately at Newmedica Eye Health Clinic in Middlesbrough. I specialise in vitreo-retinal procedures (vitrectomy, retinal detachment surgery, macular hole repair, epiretinal membrane, diabetic retinopathy and other vitreo-retinal interface pathology surgery) as well as cataract surgery and secondary lens replacement surgery, alongside uveitis and diabetic retinopathy. As a clinical lead for South Tees Diabetic Eye Screening, I manage a significant number of diabetic patients through all stages of clinical care. To date, I have performed over 2000 vitreo-retinal procedures and over 5000 cataract surgeries. I monitor my surgical results on yearly basis and my success rate is in keeping with national benchmarks. Miss Vaideanu-Collins qualifications include MB ChB, University of Medicine Iasi, Romania, FRCophth from Royal College of Ophthalmologists, and MD from University of Newcastle. She had all her Ophthalmology training in the NE England (Northern Deanery) and subspecialised in vitreo-retinal surgery through fellowship in vitreo-retina at RVI, Newcastle upon Tyne. I have a strong interest in research and teaching. After being awarded the MD from Newcastle University on genetics in glaucoma, I continued to be involved in research, by attracting a significant number of national and international studies, especially in vitreo-retinal surgery and diabetic retinopathy. I contribute to teaching in a variety of ways, by either organising surgical simulation courses for trainees or further development courses for allied professionals as well as formal and informal teaching in various settings. I am a member of Royal College of Ophthalmologists and also an examiner.
