Professor Christopher Liu

Professor Christopher Liu OBE FRCOphth FRCSEd FRCP CertLRS was born to a medical family in Hong Kong. He became shortsighted aged 13 and decided to become an eye surgeon. He studied at Prior Park College, Bath, and read Medicine at Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School, London (now Imperial College). He received post-graduate ophthalmology training at Charing Cross, Western Ophthalmic and Moorfields Eye Hospitals, before continuing with Higher Surgical Training at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge and West Norwich Hospital. He also studied in Rome from the late Professor Giancarlo Falcinelli where he learnt OOKP surgery. He has been Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at the Sussex Eye Hospital, Brighton since 1996, where he is also Honorary Clinical Professor of the Brighton and Sussex Medical School. He also holds multiple academic positions worldwide, and has over 250 publications in the ophthalmic literature. He has been President of the British Society for Refractive Surgery, the Medical Contact Lens and Ocular Surface Association, the Southern Ophthalmological Society and is President Elect of the Brighton & Sussex Medico-Chirurgical Society. He has also been Council Member and Honorary Secretary of the United Kingdom Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. He is Regional Representative, Council Member, Examiner and Trustee of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. Professor Liu was appointed an Office of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2018.
