Dr Holroyd graduated from the University of Southampton in 2000. Following this, his postgraduate rheumatology training was completed in the Wessex region, with accreditation in both rheumatology and general (internal) medicine in 2010. During his training, Dr Holroyd completed a clinical research fellowship at the Medical Research Council, Lifecourse Epidemiology Unit, University of Southampton where he developed his research interests investigating the epidemiology of bone disease; he was awarded a PhD for his research in epidemiology in 2019. Dr Holroyd was appointed as a Consultant Rheumatologist at University Hospital Southampton in 2012 and is currently the rheumatology departmental clinical lead for Rheumatology as well as the lead consultant for the biological therapies service for patients with inflammatory arthritis. Dr Holroyd also provides a visiting rheumatology service in Guernsey on a monthly basis. Dr Holroyd's has a particular interest in inflammatory rheumatic disease, IBD-associated arthritis, biological therapies and osteoporosis; however his practice embraces all aspects of rheumatology including spinal pain, connective tissue disease, soft tissue rheumatism and fibromyalgia. He also has expertise in the use of musculoskeletal ultrasound for the diagnosis and treatment of arthritis. Dr Holroyd has received numerous awards, including the British Society of Rheumatology Best Practice award, and was selected to represent rheumatology at the House of Lords Innovation within the NHS event. He has also received awards from the National Osteoporosis Society and the International Osteoporosis Federation for his research into bone disease. Dr Holroyd continues to maintain a keen research interest and is principal investigator on several international clinical trials
