I am a consultant general surgeon in Edinburgh specialising in gallbladder and biliary surgery, hernia repair, and advanced endoscopy (ERCP). I see and treat private patients at Spire Murrayfield Hospital and Spire Shawfair Park Hospital, with appointments typically available within 7 days of enquiry. Most of my private practice involves keyhole gallbladder removal (laparoscopic cholecystectomy) for gallstones and biliary colic, repair of inguinal, umbilical and incisional hernias, and ERCP for bile duct stones, strictures and jaundice (I have personally performed over 1,500 ERCP procedures). Remote video and telephone consultations are available if you would prefer an initial discussion before travelling to clinic. I trained in medicine at Imperial College London before moving to Edinburgh for surgical training in 2009, completing a Wellcome Trust-funded PhD in 2012 and returning as a clinical lecturer in 2015. I was appointed consultant in 2020 and hold a substantive NHS post at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, where I am also a consultant transplant surgeon and clinical lead for the Edinburgh National Organ Retrieval Service. My work has been recognised by awards including the Hunterian Lectureship (Royal College of Surgeons of England), the Sir Roy Calne Award (British Transplantation Society) and medals from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (Syme Medal, Chiene Medal and Kenneth Fearon Memorial Medal).
