Dr Chander Shekhar

Dr. Shekhar is an experienced gastroenterologist with a robust clinical and research background. He has trained extensively in London, Manchester, and the West Midlands Deanery. Currently, he serves as a consultant gastroenterologist at the University Hospital, Coventry, and also practices at the Meriden Hospital, Coventry. Dr. Shekhar is multilingual and speaks English, Punjabi, Hindi, and Urdu fluently.

Dr. Shekhar is adept at managing a wide range of gastrointestinal issues, including: • Acid reflux and indigestion • Difficulty in swallowing • Dyspepsia and indigestion • Bloating and distension • Pancreatitis • Changes in bowel habits, constipation and diarrhoea • Suspected gastrointestinal cancers and Iron deficiency anaemia Procedures at Meriden Hospital • Gastroscopy • Flexible sigmoidoscopy • Colonoscopy Advanced Therapeutic Procedures at UHCW After consultation at the Meriden clinic, he offers more complex procedures at UHCW, including: • Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) • ERCP • Endoscopy and dilatation • Small bowel capsule endoscopy • Colon capsule endoscopy • Endoscopic removal of pre-and early cancerous lesions (polyps) Research and Academic Contributions Dr. Shekhar has a strong interest in clinical research, functional gastrointestinal disorders and new endoscopy procedures. His work at the Neurogastroenterology Unit at the University Hospital of South Manchester has led to numerous national and international presentations and publications. He earned his MD from the University of Manchester in 2012. He completed a fellowship in advanced endoscopic techniques at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, in 2014. In 2017, he received a prestigious BSG travelling endoscopy fellowship in Hamburg, Germany. His current research focuses on colon capsule endoscopy and the application of AI. Professional Journey • 2015: Joined Manor Hospital, Walsall, as a consultant gastroenterologist, introducing new procedures and services for the patients. He received the Clinical and Hospital Excellence Awards in 2019. • 2020: Appointed as a consultant gastroenterologist at the UHCW, specialising in advanced therapeutic endoscopy procedures.  • 2022-2024: Served as the clinical service lead for the gastroenterology department.
