GMC reg: 2616443Past and present positions Present position: Consultant Ophthalmic and Oculoplastic Surgeon in full-time clinical private practice (October 2014 to present) Honorary Consultant Ophthalmic and Oculoplastic Surgeon, Manchester Royal Eye Hospital Past positions: Consultant Ophthalmic and Oculoplastic Surgeon, Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, Manchester (1992 to 2014) Specialist training In addition to my general ophthalmic training I undertook specialist training in oculoplastic surgery at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, in 1989 and then undertook further specialist training in oculoplastic, orbital and lacrimal surgery at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa in 1991. This was a 12 months intensive training fellowship with exposure to all aspects of oculoplastic, orbital and lacrimal surgery. I also spent time training with plastic surgeons, ENT surgeons, neurosurgeons and maxillofacial surgeons during the course of my fellowship in the USA. I have worked closely with colleagues in these specialties for over 20 years. I was the preceptor for an oculoplastic and orbital sub-specialty training fellowship at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital for over 20 years. I have trained surgeons from Australia, New Zealand, India, Pakistan, Europe and Israel in addition to surgeons from the U.K. Memberships of professional organisations Member of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) Member of the British Oculoplastic Surgery Society (BOPSS) - President of the Society from 2011 to 2014 Member of the European Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons (ESOPRS) Member of The American Academy of Ophthalmology Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in 1992 Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh in 1987. Published books and editorial roles I am the single author of a major textbook “Oculoplastic Surgery” published by Martin Dunitz, 2002. The second edition of this textbook was published by Informa Healthcare in December 2010. The third edition was published by Thieme in October 2019. I am the author of 6 book chapters on a variety of oculoplastic subjects including a chapter on blepharoplasty in Scott-Browns Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery 2018. I was the section editor (ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery section) for EYE, the scientific journal of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists from 1993 – 2008. Research publications I have published over 100 papers in peer reviewed medical and practice journals on topics in ophthalmic, oculoplastic, orbital and lacrimal surgery. I have published in a wide range of journals including the British Journal of Ophthalmology, EYE, Orbit, Ophthalmology, Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery.
