I have been a Consultant in General and Vascular Surgery since April 2002. I stopped vascular surgery when the services were moved centrally in 2018. I continue to do General and Upper GI Surgery as well as Varicose Vein Surgery. I was the Clinical Lead in Surgery from 2007 to 2017 I was the Associate Medical Director (Patient Quality and Safety) in my Trust from 2017 to 2024. I now concentrate mainly on clinical work I am the Clinical Governance Lead for Tyneside Surgical Services  I have trained in the Mersey Deanery from 1995 to 1997. I completed a Sauvage Vascular Fellowship in Seattle from 1997 to 1999 and then the final years of training at the Freeman Hospital, Newcastle, and James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough. I completed my junior doctor training in the North West. I am an Examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh for the Specialty Board Exam in Surgery for the last 10 years I have edited  3 textbooks on surgery and published around a hundred chapters, articles, and research abstracts.
