Miss Beatrix Elsberger

Miss Beatrix Elsberger has been a Consultant Breast Surgeon at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary since 2018. She studied Medicine in Munich, Germany. After qualifying in the year 2000 she moved to the UK and spent her early junior doctor years in Southampton, Winchester and Poole before relocating to Scotland. She undertook her basic and higher surgical training in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Tayside ending her trainee years with a senior breast surgical fellowship at the Royal Women’s Hospital in Melbourne, Australia. She was awarded a PhD in 2011 by the University of Glasgow and more recently a three-year academic National Research Scotland (NRS) fellowship by the Chief Scientist Office (CSO) to pursue her research interests in clinical trials and translational biomarker research. She contributes to several Trial Management Groups of national trials and collaborates with local Scottish scientists to run feasibility studies linking “bench to bedside”. This has led to the NIHR Clinical Research Excellence in Surgical Trials (CREST) Award 2022 for the Aberdeen Breast Unit. She is dedicated to teaching students and training resident doctors. Miss Elsberger is one of nine receipients in the UK, who received the prestigious Hunter Doig Medal; an award which celebrates clinical excellence of female members of the Royal College of Surgeon Edinburgh.
