Dr Ayesha Akbar

Dr Akbar has extensive experience as a gastroenterologist and has worked for over a decade as a consultant at St Mark’s Hospital, the National Bowel Hospital, which is an internationally renowned centre of excellence for gastroenterology. She graduated with Honours in her medical degree and top of her class at University, and completed her Postgraduate training in London including a PhD at Hammersmith Hospital, Imperial College London. She is a key opinion leader in her field often speaking and chairing nationally and internationally. She has held many key senior leadership roles including Research & Development Director and Divisional Medical Director. She was Education chair for the British Society of Gastroenterology for 3 years, and is passionate about patient care and experience, education, research and safety driving forward many initiatives in these areas. She is Deputy Chief Medical Officer at her NHS Trust overseeing quality and safety.
